In 1929…

A booklet proclaimed that it was “the dawn of a new day” at the southwest corner of Grand and Gravois when a 10-story Art Deco bank building was opened. South Side National Bank was designed by the Bank Building and Equipment Company under the direction of chief architect W.G. Knoebel (the origin of our name).

The building was considered the South Side’s first skyscraper, and became a lasting emblem of Greco Deco, a style that combined Art Deco with traditional Greek and Roman architectural elements. Intricate stone work of eagles, inscriptions, patterns, and seals cover the exterior of the building, and these elegant details are carried over into the metal and plaster work inside The Noble.

Today

Though the bank left in 2001, the building survived through economic downturns, neighborhood changes, and the threat of being demolished. It has since been lovingly restored, and the connection to the bank can still be felt in the venue.

Come celebrate and create lasting memories in this beautiful, historic space.
